How we use AI - and how we keep it accountable

What our AI does

LessonsLearnt uses AI to detect patterns across daily wellbeing check-ins and to summarise lesson feedback. When a student's data suggests emerging distress, the AI flags it so a counsellor can review the same day. When a teacher receives feedback from a whole class, the AI summarises the themes so they don't have to read hundreds of responses.

What our AI does not do

Our AI never makes a consequential decision about a student on its own. It flags; humans decide. It does not diagnose, it does not assign labels, and it does not act without a person reviewing. The human is always in control of every decision that affects a student.

Our principles

• Human in control. AI surfaces signals; trained adults make decisions.
• Transparency. Schools can understand why a student was flagged.
• Data minimisation. We use only the data needed, processed within the EU.
• No training on your students. Your students' data is not used to train external models.
• Fairness. We work to ensure the system serves all students equitably, across languages and backgrounds.

Governance

These commitments are formalised through our alignment to ISO/IEC 42001:2023, the international standard for AI management systems, governance, and transparency. We are actively pursuing formal certification.
